Workshop
”Climate finance, financial regulation and the political economy: Steering the green transition”

Berlin, September 26, 2023

The green transition of the economy towards carbon neutrality is necessary to reach the 2 degree target of the Paris Agreement. The financial sector can be a key lever in this transition. For relevant policy recommendations, we must better understand relevant factors and stakeholders, influencing the green transition as well as their interdependencies, including regulatory measures and political acceptability.

In this workshop, we therefore aim to make progress in addressing these questions by

(1) Exchanging insights from current research on how to achieve a green transition through financial regulation, by exploring for instance the impact and side effects of disclosure and alternative financial regulations on the real economy.

(2) Presenting results from our current work on transition scenarios to systematically capture the interdependencies between important climate-, financial-, economic and political factors in order to discuss our findings and get feedback from researchers and practitioners.

(3) Engaging with relevant stakeholders in a panel discussion that will encompass the practitioners´ perspective on the topic: From Rhetorics to Real Impact:How can climate disclosure and green financial regulation facilitate the transition?
